Explosive Detection Unit.(EDU)
STANDARDS
RPG's Explosive Detection Unit (EDU) maintains the highest standard within the industry with both the Explosive Detection Dogs (EDD) and their handlers undergoing certification to ensure the highest standard of service, combined with their knowledge of explosives, explosive devices and search procedures, they represent the forefront of this capability within Australia.
SKILLS
Our handlers come from a variety of backgrounds with numerous skills and qualifications. As a minimum our persons qualifications are Cert 3 in Dog Behavior and Training, a Nationally Recognised Competency under the Australian Qualification Framework accredited by the Australian National Training Authority.
Handlers also hold managerial positions within numerous training facilities within Australia and are senior instructors in scent detection and handling for the National Dog Trainers Federation. In some situations an EDD may be incapable of searching a designated area for example Confined Spaces, Working at heights, therefore our handlers are trained in explosive search and recognition.
WHERE
The EDU is deployable at short notice nationally and is resourced for international operations. EDU can operate in most environments including Cruise liners, office blocks, stadiums, aircraft, trains, construction sites, restaurants and corporate facilities. The EDU has been employed on proactive and response tasks and can also be incorporated into Close Personal Protection (CPP) security sweeps.
WHY RPG
In the past , detection dog agencies have employed dogs on looks as opposed to ability to detect explosives or, have trained their dogs to detect on only a few of the odours required to detect explosives currently in use within Australia. RPG's scent detection odors are in line with Government agencies and can change to meet intelligence driven requirements.
Detection dogs can not determine the difference between a chemical in an explosive and the same chemical in a detergent or fertilizer. Therefore the additional skill of Explosive Search and Recognition allows handlers to conduct visual and electronic appraisal of any suspicious items. RPG's personnel will not attempt to disarm or manipulate any suspect device. The appraisal methods used by RPG operatives identify additional material aside from explosives that would be present in an Improvised Explosive Devices. This allows police and other government agencies to respond only to credible threats, preventing loss of time and costly responsive and protective methods.
Additional skills and training can be found at the qualifications page.
